SAN ILDEFONSO, SAN NICOLAS ILOCOS NORTE— At the heart of Silid Aralan, Inc.’s mission is the belief that every child has the potential to grow beyond their struggles and become a confident, self-directed learner and future leader. This vision comes to life when Co-Learners, parents, teachers, and the wider school community work together to create an environment where children are understood, encouraged, and empowered. On August 15, 2026, we had the opportunity to bring this mission to San Nicolas Elementary School through the Silid Aralan Read to Lead Co-Learners Capacity Building Training and Parents Orientation, strengthening the people who walk alongside learners and helping build a community where every child is given the support and confidence to discover their potential.
As facilitators, Jopie Sandoval and Arcie G. Mallari guided the Co-Learners in understanding their role as more than instructors—they are companions who walk alongside children as they learn and grow. The training emphasized the importance of creating safe, welcoming, and non-judgmental spaces where learners feel heard, accepted, and free to make mistakes without fear. By leading with empathy, patience, and genuine encouragement, Co-Learners can help children recognize their own worth, discover their strengths, and gradually develop the confidence to believe in themselves and take ownership of their learning journey.
During the Parents’ Orientation, we highlighted the important role of parents in creating a home environment where children can grow not only as learners, but also as confident and responsible individuals. Home is where the values, habits, and encouragement introduced in the learning space are reinforced each day. Through simple acts of listening, affirming, guiding, and celebrating effort, parents can help children develop the confidence to face challenges, learn from mistakes, and believe in their own abilities.
We also encouraged parents to see themselves as Co-Learners alongside their children. Learning becomes more meaningful when parents are willing to listen, learn, and grow with their children rather than simply instructing them. Through this shared journey, parents become partners in discovering their children’s strengths, understanding their struggles, and nurturing their potential. Together with Co-Learners and teachers, they help create a supportive community where children feel valued, empowered, and confident to take ownership of their learning and growth.
